"Growing And Changing With Our Community For Over 50 Years"
On Thursday, June 17, 2010, the Northwest Suburban Bar Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary. The celebration began with the installation of incoming president, Lee F. DeWald and the 2010-2011 Officers and Board of Governors by the Honorable Joseph J. Urso, presiding judge in the Third Municipal District of Cook County.
On hand to help mark the half-century mark were more than 130 guests including 26 past presidents of the NWSBA!
John O’Brien, formerly an NWSBA board member and past president of the Illinois State Bar Association, was Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The event was held at Rolling Green Country Club in Arlington Heights.
Donald Norman, one of the founding members of Northwest Suburban Bar Association, was presented with the NWSBA Founder Award for his pivotal role in the formation of the Association. Then NWSBA Secretary Ronald Wittmeyer noted the contribution of Mr. Norman who, with Bill Moore, Kenneth Meyer and Jim Dowd had the idea in early 1960 to form a bar association for attorneys in the northwest suburbs. Later that year, 24 lawyers gathered at Jack Gunnell’s, a local bar, restaurant and bowling alley at Route 83, Rand Road and Kensington Avenue and formally organized the Northwest Suburban Bar Association. Wittmeyer kidded that the attorneys did so in order to find out who they could trust, and, more seriously, "to improve the quality of legal services to northwest suburban residents.”
PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED PUBLIC SERVICE
President Lee F. DeWald presented the President’s Award for Distinguished Public Service” to all 26 past presidents in attendance.
A special keepsake of the evening was the 50th anniversary program and booklet, which featured letters of congratulation from John O’Brien, president of the ISBA; and Timothy C. Evans, chief judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County; reflections from many past presidents; and a timeline marking the milestones along the NWSBA’s 50-year journey.
