Legal problems can prove to be costly and time-consuming if you lack the guidance of trained professionals. The ARS program assists those who are able to pay normal attorney fees but whose ability to locate legal representation might be affected by a lack of experience with the legal system, types of services needed, and the uncertainty of costs associated with hiring an attorney
Whether you are looking for help with setting up a business, planning your estate, pursuing a personal injury claim, or any other legal need, our trained staff will help you find a knowledgeable and qualified attorney that best suits your specific needs.
Attorneys that participate in this program are:
- Members of the NWSBA;
- Have met all the requirements necessary to practice law in the State of Illinois;
- In good standing with the Illinois State Bar; and
- Practice in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
The Attorney Referral Service offers two important services to the public:
- We help you determine whether the problem is truly of a legal nature or whether another service agency would be more appropriate;
- We provide you with an unbiased referral to an attorney who has experience in the area of law appropriate to your needs.
It should be noted that this IS NOT A FREE PROGRAM. A $25.00 fee is due at the time of your consultation, and is payable whether you hire the attorney or not.
Any legal work done on your behalf will be billed at the attorney's standard fee schedule.
A fee of $25.00 is charged for a one-half hour consultation. Credit card payments are taken for all telephone consultations. Please be aware that additional fees at the attorney's normal hourly rates may be charged by the attorney if the consultation exceeds the one-half hour time period. The consultation fee is to be pre-paid directly to the Northwest Suburban Bar Association at the time of the consultation and is non-refundable. The $25.00 fee must be paid regardless of whether you hire the attorney or not and is for the time spent on the telephone or in person, with the attorney, as they determine the viability of your case/situation.
During the consultation, the attorney will evaluate your legal situation and advise you about your options. Further legal services, if necessary, should be discussed with the attorney and additional attorney's fees agreed upon before you proceed with any additional legal work. Note that attorneys may charge either a flat fee or by the hour and they may also require a retainer, or advance payment, from which their hourly fee is subtracted. Make sure you understand both the attorney's method of charging fees and his/her billing procedures.
PLEASE NOTE: Northwest Suburban Bar Association personnel
are not attorneys and cannot provide you with legal advice.
