The Ethics Committee is open to all members of the NWSBA who have a common interest in professional responsibility issues and the application of the Illinois Supreme Court Rules on Admission and Discipline of Attorneys and the Illinois Rules of Professional Conduct. The committee provides education and a means for collaboration on matters affecting attorneys in all fields of practice. The committee chair also assists other NWSBA committee chairs with facilitating speakers and programming related to ethics in their respective practice areas.
When rule changes are contemplated or implemented, the committee provides a forum for discussion and guidance. If court decisions impact lawyer ethics, such matters may also be the subject of committee programming.
The committee is responsible for presenting at least two CLE per year. Those programs have traditionally included an “Ethics in Film” seminar and a presentation regarding current issues in the application of the professional conduct rules.
Meetings of the Ethics Committee are convened on an ad hoc basis when deemed necessary by the chair or the NWSBA leadership. One (1) hour of CLE credit is awarded to all members in good standing that attend the one hour long Business Law & Intellectual Property committee meetings. Non-members are welcome to attend committee meetings, however they are not eligible to receive CLE credit. The time and location of the meetings are determined prior to any such meetings.
